While we are unlikely to find an actual American Bull Boxer in the movies ( they are not a well-known breed ), we can find movies and tv shows featuring American bulldogs and boxers. I must say, I am both astonished and a little resentful that there are so few movies featuring the highly intelligent, beautiful formed, and expressive boxer. But, with that being said, I will start a list: 1- Our Gang ( Little Rascals ) - 1922-1944. featuring Petey ( Pete the Pup ) a pitbull terrier. 2- The Tender Years - 1948. featuring Dusty ( a.k.a. the slasher ), a boxer. 3- Homeward Bound - 1993. featuring Chance, a Scott type American bulldog. 4- The Little Rascals - 1994. featuring Petey, a Scott type American bulldog. 5- Homeward Bound 2 - 1996. featuring Chance, a Scott type American bulldog with Ashcan, a boxer, and Pete, a bullmastiff.

They received their first as a wedding gift. “We named him Harvey, after the invisible rabbit. He was really smart. He knew he wasn’t allowed to get on the furniture so he would only put two paws on at a time, and he would sit between us if we had a fight.”

Pete the Pup was and always will be as much of a Little Rascal as any of the Our Gang kids. It is an obvious fact the Petey is a bulldog. However, the exact breed of bulldog has long been a matter of debate. Some say American bulldog. Others insist the much beloved bulldog superstar is a pitbull terrier. Well, I believe that I have uncovered the answer - maybe. www.findagrave.com/memorial/4242/pete_the_pup Animal Actor. Pete the Pup, the son of Pal the Wonder Dog, took over the role of Petey, the canine mascot of the Our Gang/Little Rascals shorts after his father, Pal the Wonder Dog was poisoned in 1930. The trademark ring around his eye was makeup to match his dad's natural marking. Their guardian and trainer was Harry Lucenay. Petey was an American Pit Bull Terrier and was registered with the American Kennel Club as a Staffordshire Terrier. The AKC recognized the APBT as a breed, but in 1935 changed the name to Staffordshire Terrier, and many say Petey was among the first to be registered in that name. The dog was also UKC registered under the name Purple Ribbon Peter. Although a few other dogs played Petey, Lucenay's was the best known. Petey appeared in many of the best-remembered shorts, though he was replaced with a series of younger dogs beginning in 1932. Petey lived to be 18 years old. When Harry was asked about him after his death in 1946 he said, "He was a gentle, playful and warm dog. He would sleep at the foot of my bed. He was just the regular family dog. I really miss him."

americacomesalive.com/pal-the-wonder-dog-and-his-offspring-pete/ Pete, a pup sired by Pal, came into the Our Gang role of Pete the Pup by 1930. The observant will note that the circle around the eye migrated from left to right. In the early days of film, continuity was not maintained from scene to scene as closely as it is in films today. Over time, other pit bulls were used for certain shots and eventually Pal’s son Pete retired. Other pit bull bloodlines carried the role forward.

dogs-in-history.blogspot.com/2016/04/petey-little-rascals-dog.html Famous Dogs in History - Petey: The Little Rascals Dog Petey became famous as one of the most lovable and recognized dogs in film history. The Little Rascals (originally called Our Gang) is a short comedy film series created by producer Hal Roach. It's about a group of poor neighborhood children being their adventurous selves. Petey, seen as a nanny dog, is the kids loyal and affectionate companion who protects and entertains them. The first dog to play Petey in The Little Rascals was an American pit bull terrier named Pal, owned by Harry Lucenay. Many sources say Pal was hired in 1927 and his career ended in 1930 when he died of suspected poisoning by someone with a grudge against Harry. Pal's puppy Pete replaced him in the show after his death. According to Ted Lucenay, Harry's son who grew up with Pete, "There were other Petes, but this is the original Pete." Many sources say Pal had a partial ring around his right eye which was made into a complete ring with a permanent dye by Hollywood make-up artist Max Factor, and Pete was given a complete ring around his left eye with make-up. However, according to Ted "The ring around his [Pete's] eye was natural, he was born with that." Tiffany Pifer, Ted's granddaughter, says "The black ring around Pete's left eye was not the work of a makeup artist. The natural skin coloration was such an oddity that it became certified by Ripley's Believe It or Not." Pete retired from the show in 1932 after Harry was fired from the Hal Roach Studios, but the lovable dog continued to please his fans. The family would spend summers in Atlantic City, New Jersey and Harry would take Pete to the Steel Pier where children and adults could meet him and pose for photographs. Pete died of old age in 1946 when Ted was 18 years old. Ted said "He was a gentle, playful and warm dog. He would sleep at the foot of my bed. He was just the regular family dog. I really miss him." The child actors loved working with Pete. Jackie Cooper, who was allowed to take Pete home with him for the weekend, wrote in his autobiography "I loved that dog. To stay a whole weekend with Pete was my idea of glory and paradise combined." After Pete's retirement, other unrelated dogs were used to play Petey in The Little Rascals, and rings were applied to their eyes, some around the right eye and some around the left eye.

The Tender Years - 1948. The first of the Edward L. Alperson "Alson Productions" for 20th Century-Fox distribution, featuring the return to the screen, after nearly a four-year absence, of comedian Joe E. Brown, in a non-comedic role. The story is set in a small mid-western town in the 1880's, where minister William "Will" Norris becomes involved in the vicious fights held in the local dog-pit when one of the injured animals escapes its brutal master and seeks refuge in the Norris home. Forced by law to return the dog to its owner, the minister goes against his religious teachings and, with his son Ted, steals the dog in an effort to rouse public sympathy against the dog fights and against cruelty to all animals. The film was endorsed in many locations by local chapters of the American Humane Society and/or the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Old Yeller www.imdb.com/title/tt0050798/trivia/?ref_=tt_trv_trv The dog, Old Yeller, although described in the dialogue as a mongrel, is portrayed by a 170-pound Yellow Mastador (Labrador Retriever/English Mastiff cross) and, in the book by Fred Gipson, is a Black-Mouthed Cur, a similar looking but less bulky breed. When a yellow mongrel comes for an uninvited stay with the family, Travis reluctantly adopts the dog. Lassie en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lassie Lassie is a fictional female Rough Collie dog, and is featured in a short story by Eric Knight that was later expanded to a full-length novel called Lassie Come-Home. Knight's portrayal of Lassie bears some features in common with another fictional female collie of the same name, featured in the British writer Elizabeth Gaskell's 1859 short story "The Half Brothers". In "The Half Brothers", Lassie is loved only by her young master and guides the adults back to where two boys are lost in a snowstorm. Published in 1940, Knight's novel was filmed by MGM in 1943, as Lassie Come Home with a dog named Pal playing Lassie. Pal then appeared with the stage name "Lassie" in six other MGM feature films through 1951. Pal's owner and trainer Rudd Weatherwax then acquired the Lassie name and trademark from MGM and appeared with Pal (as "Lassie") at rodeos, fairs, and similar events across America in the early 1950s. In 1954, the long-running, Emmy winning television series Lassie debuted, and, over the next 19 years, a succession of Pal's descendants appeared on the series. The "Lassie" character has appeared in radio, television, film, toys, comic books, animated series, juvenile novels, and other media. Pal's descendants continue to play Lassie today.

Rin Tin Tin en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rin_Tin_Tin Rin Tin Tin or Rin-Tin-Tin (September 1918 – August 10, 1932) was a male German Shepherd born in Flirey, France, who became an international star in motion pictures. He was rescued from a World War I battlefield by an American soldier, Lee Duncan, who nicknamed him "Rinty". Duncan trained Rin Tin Tin and obtained silent film work for the dog. Rin Tin Tin was an immediate box-office success and went on to appear in 27 Hollywood films, gaining worldwide fame. Along with the earlier canine film star Strongheart, Rin Tin Tin was responsible for greatly increasing the popularity of German Shepherd dogs as family pets. The immense profitability of his films contributed to the success of Warner Bros. studios and helped advance the career of Darryl F. Zanuck from screenwriter to producer and studio executive. After Rin Tin Tin died in 1932, the name was given to several related German Shepherd dogs featured in fictional stories on film, radio, and television. Rin Tin Tin Jr. appeared in some serialized films, but was not as talented as his father. Rin Tin Tin III, said to be Rin Tin Tin's grandson, but probably only distantly related, helped promote the military use of dogs during World War II. Rin Tin Tin III also appeared in a film with child actor Robert Blake in 1947. Duncan groomed Rin Tin Tin IV for the 1950s television series The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin, but the dog performed poorly in a screen test and was replaced in the TV show by trainer Frank Barnes's dogs, primarily one named Flame Jr., called JR, with the public led to believe otherwise. Instead of shooting episodes, Rin Tin Tin IV stayed at home in Riverside, California. The TV show Rin Tin Tin was nominated for a PATSY Award in both 1958 and 1959 but did not win. After Duncan died in 1960, the screen property of Rin Tin Tin passed to TV producer Herbert B. Leonard, who worked on further adaptations such as the 1988–1993 Canadian-made TV show Katts and Dog, which was called Rin Tin Tin: K-9 Cop in the US and Rintintin Junior in France. Following Leonard's death in 2006, his lawyer James Tierney made the 2007 children's film Finding Rin Tin Tin, an American–Bulgarian production based on Duncan's discovery of the dog in France. Meanwhile, a Rin Tin Tin memorabilia collection was being amassed by Texas resident Jannettia Propps Brodsgaard, who had purchased several direct descendant dogs from Duncan beginning with Rinty Tin Tin Brodsgaard in 1957. Brodsgaard bred the dogs to keep the bloodline. Brodsgaard's granddaughter, Daphne Hereford, continued to build on the tradition and bloodline of Rin Tin Tin from 1988 to 2011; she was the first to trademark the name Rin Tin Tin, in 1993, and she bought the domain names rintintin.com and rintintin.net to establish a website. Hereford also opened a short-lived Rin Tin Tin museum in Latexo, Texas. Hereford passed the tradition to her daughter, Dorothy Yanchak, in 2011. The current dog, Rin Tin Tin XII, owned by Yanchak, takes part in public events to represent the Rin Tin Tin legacy.

Five Dogues de Bordeaux Star in “Turner & Hooch” Series www.akc.org/expert-advice/lifestyle/five-dogues-de-bordeaux-turner-hooch/ Not one but five burly, brown-nosed Dogues de Bordeaux star as “Hooch” in the series sequel/continuation of the 1980s film “Turner & Hooch”. The dogs, named Arnie, Hammer, Obi, Cyd, and Mya each play an important role in filming. Most Americans learned about this French breed from the 1989 movie, starring Tom Hanks. In the movie, Hanks plays a police investigator who inherits a Dogue de Bordeaux who happens to be the only witness to a murder he is trying to solve. “That’s the Hooch dog!” people would invariably say when they saw a Dogue in the flesh. Today, a new generation falls in love with the Dogue de Bordeaux in the 2021 Disney+ series. In the show, actor Vanessa Lengies plays K-9 trainer Erica, tasked with turning a massive, unruly slobber machine into a working partner for U.S. Marshall Scott Turner (Josh Peck). Lengies loves all five of her four-legged co-stars. “I was obsessed with them upon first sight,” Lengies says. “They’re so beautiful. Their fur was this rich orange and they’re so sweet and their eyes just look at you with nothing but love. And they slobber! From the trainers, I learned that it’s not about knowing how to say the command or trick. … It is mostly about the relationship that you build with the dog and how much he can trust you. Obi was my fav orite because he and I had a special connection. … If I had to make an adjustment in a scene, he would follow me or change it, just for me. I really loved our connection. He’s also the most drooly out of all the dogs. So, for any drool shot, you’d have to call Obi, which was so cute.” Obi (Silver G.Ch. Camelot’s A New Hope) has a long list of accomplishments, including winning Best in Breed at the 2020 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. As the oldest of the dogs on set, Obi is also the father of Cyd, another Dogue de Bordeaux playing Hooch. “I would always tell the director that Obi needed to be on my left side,” Lengies says. If he had to, he’d walk on her right, but he wasn’t comfortable. “The second you put him on the left side, he was like, Oh, I’m home. Obi is definitely a show dog.” Turner & Hooch is available to stream on Disney+.
